Freedom River

Back

Concentrating on an area of growing concern in our society--the indifference that makes people blind to the injustices around them--this animated parable traces how the erosion of freedom, like the pollution of natural resources, can occur so gradually that both evade the attention of a busy and preoccupied nation. (Narrated by Orson Welles)

Interesting how a master hypnotist has left out the part about how the people's became themselves hynotized.

This is a very bad video that places blame where it does not belong. Those "others" who came up with the "solution to the problem" are, of course, the New World Oder.

Please, wake up and redirect the flow yourselves. It can be done now, this moment.

No it didn't. The internet was originally developed as a military system, not as a profit seeking endeavor. Electricity was discovered through human curiosity, not desire for profit. Computers were developed by the military, and in universities receiving government funding. But you're right, youtube was created to turn a profit. So you can cling to your religious faith in the "free" market. Hurray for the freedom to exploit and oppress.

Look up the z3, made in 1941 by some guy tinkering. Maybe the military sped up the computer's development and the internet, maybe the taxation and wars slowed it down. If it did speed up computer development, are you saying that's worth the wars?

"Too much freedom leads to disorder!"

The internet was proposed by some guy at MIT, whose idea caught the DOD's eye. That's it. The military didn't develop it, hell without taxation he may have found some other way to develop it.

"are you saying that's worth the wars?"

Of course not. My point was that the "free" market is not what facilitated those advances.
confederalsocialist (November 12, 2008 at 2:34 am)
The people who did that were all free marketeers. Darpanet was headed by an MIT guy, funded by the DOD. It wasn't developed by the DOD. Nothing is. Government can't even build roads, it contracts everything out.

The only case you could make is that it provides compulsive (Taxes, don't pay you go to prison) coordination. But remember, the world wars wiped out a lot, who knows where we would be without it. And to say "I support only GOOD government" is just cherry-picking. It's all or nothing.

Tesla came up with wireless electricity years and years ago. Electricity would have soon became a means to transfer information. Quite possibly he could have had wireless internet for the world 40 years ago.

But he's also taken much more than his fair share. If he hadn't, we wouldn't have to sit here and argue about whether or not he's generous.
